Help Us Fund TWO Holiday Shops This Holiday Season!
It’s our favorite time of year—the season of GIVING!
The Count On Me Holiday Shops bring the gift of gift-giving straight to young patients in children’s hospitals across the country. Our flagship program—now in its’ THIRTEENTH year!—allows these kiddos, bound to the decisions of their doctors, parents, and bodies, to express their creativity and give back to their caregivers. Young patients are empowered by a one-on-one shopping experience where THEY are in charge as they choose gifts and wrap for their loved ones, all without ever having to leave the hospital, or for those room-bound kiddos, their hospital bed!
Tuesday, November 27th, 2018, non-profits around the world will be participating in Giving Tuesday, a global initiative that encourages people to GIVE in whatever way they can. We invite you to DIRECTLY impact young patients in children’s hospitals by choosing Count On Me as your vehicle for giving!
Our goal is to raise enough funding to support not one, but TWO hospitals of young patients to shop for their caregivers! On average, each shop costs around $5,000 but provides hundreds of priceless smiles and heartwarming family moments.
In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, we encourage our supporters to give whatever they can, whether it’s $5, $105, or $1,005, not just on Giving Tuesday but through the year end! Your donations will go directly to the Holiday Shop experience for kiddos in the hospitals we are serving this season: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Join us in continuing to share the gift of gift-giving, and DONATE NOW!
Grantee Spotlight: St. Francis Medical Center of Lynwood Foundation
With the last grantee spotlight of the year, we are honoring the St. Francis Medical Center of Lynwood Foundation. Their program, in partnership with Faison and Faison Dental Practice, provides dental surgeries to special needs children from uninsured, low-income families in Southeast Los Angles. Few dentists serve patients who are uninsured, and few have the patience, compassion, and facilities to treat special needs patients, but the Faisons put their heart into doing both! We are so impressed by this team, and are proud to say that our grant provided surgery for 11 special needs patients this year. Keep up the great work!
Grantee Spotlight: UCLA UniCamps
This month we are putting a spotlight on UCLA UniCamps, one of our fantastic grantees! Each year, UniCamp sends nearly 1,000 children from underserved communities along with 500 student volunteers to an outdoor summer camp aimed to foster personal growth and inspire children to reach their full potential. We are so impressed by their dedication to transforming lives and making a positive impact in the community! Keep up the great work!
For more information, visit UniCamp.org.
Grantee Spotlight: AbilityFirst
This month's grantee spotlight is on AbilityFirst, a group that focuses on bringing high quality programming to participants who face significant challenges such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and other intellectual/developmental disabilities! We are so proud to support their after-school program, an outcomes-based and person-centered program implemented to facilitate development of independent living skills through real-world practice; to build communication and socialization skills through group and community activities; and to encourage healthy living with a variety of individual and group recreational and fitness opportunities. Very impressive!!

Grantee Spotlight: Reading Opens Minds
This month we spotlight our fabulous grantee, Reading Opens Minds, a group dedicated to promoting literacy in at-risk communities through book clubs! We are so proud to support their after-school book clubs, and LOVE listening in on the insightful discussions held during their Real WORD Podcast! The shared experience of reading and discussion nurtures self worth, fosters empathy, encourages meaningful communication, and increases the sense of community, especially in areas where youth are most vulnerable in after-school hours. Way to go Readers!!

Grantee Spotlight: Mar Vista Family Center
This month we are putting a spotlight on another of our amazing grantees, the Mar Vista Family Center. MVFC operates on a cooperative model through which families remain involved from early childhood all the way through adulthood. Their programs stresses the importance of parents being partners in the education of their children, and the holistic model allows parents, teens, and other members of the community to become classroom volunteers, preschool teachers, mentors, fundraisers, and community advocates. A community once filled with gang violence and unsafe streets has been transforming into a flourishing community thanks to MVFC! We are so proud to support!

Grantee Spotlight: UCLA Intervention Program
Look at those SWEET faces!
The UCLA Intervention Program is a center-based early intervention program providing educational, diagnostic and therapeutic services to infants and toddlers with a wide range of developmental risks and disabilities since 1952. Their professional team, Medical Director (a pediatrician with a subspecialty in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics), early childhood educators, and therapists, seek to discover each child’s unique learning style; how he/she processes information and what motivates him/her. Through helping children develop successful strategies for learning and guiding them to feel proud of their accomplishments, children expand their images of themselves as competent individuals open to life-long learning.

Akeem Ayers' Blue & Gold Football Clinic a success!
Count On Me teamed up with former UCLA Bruin and current Los Angeles Ram Akeem Ayers for an all day, all free football clinic for boys and girls ages 7-13. Hosted by Verbum Dei High School in Watts, CA, the event was centered around football drills and life lessons. Akeem even brought along Rams teammates Todd Gurley and Alec Ogletree to run drills and sign autographs! The young athletes kept satiated with lunch provided by California Pizza Kitchen, fruit provided by Melissa's Produce, and water by AQUAhydrate. They also got a goody bag to take home, with fun gear and snacks provided by the Los Angeles Rams, Quest Nutrition, Lenny and Larry's, KIND Snacks, and Xenith.

Giving the Gift of Gift-Giving
We are on a whirlwind tour of empowerment and the Count On Me Holiday Shops are putting smiles on the faces of young patients in children's hospitals this month! So far, we've visited Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Mary Bridge Children's Hospital (Seattle/Tacoma) and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and the kiddos are enjoying every moment in our festive pop-up shops, selecting and wrapping gifts for their loved ones. Our volunteers are having a great time, too! Check out the stories being told in each city about our annual empowerment program!
